Privacy Policy
Shadeline shows sunlight and shadow on a 3D map. It is published by Protech. It has no accounts and no advertising, and it contains no third-party tracking or advertising SDK. This page lists everything that leaves your device.
Your location
Shadeline reads your device location only when you tap the locate button, and only to move the map to where you are. We do not store it or send it to our servers.
What other services receive
To draw the map, your device requests data directly from these services. Like any website, they receive your IP address and the area you are looking at.
- OpenFreeMap: map tiles.
- Amazon Web Services: terrain tiles.
- Photon by Komoot: the text you type in search.
For solar reports, our server asks NASA POWER for climate data for a cell about 50 km wide around the point you picked.
Short links
If you create a short link, we store the view it describes: place, camera, date and time, and any building edits. We also store a one-way hash of your IP address, used only to limit each client to 30 links per hour. Anyone with the link can open that view. To have a link removed, write to us and include it.
Usage counts and error reports
To see what works and what breaks, the site and app send anonymous events to our own database: which screens and features were used, how long the map took to load, the device type, app version, language, country and the website you came from, and technical details when something fails. We never record your name, email, IP address, what you type in search, or positions on the map.
On a phone you choose this when you first open the app: nothing is sent until you decide, and you can change it in Settings. If you allow usage analytics, a random device id lets us count returning use. It is not linked to you. On a computer, visits are counted with a random id for that visit only, nothing is stored on your device, and you can turn it off in the Layers panel. Events are deleted after 180 days.
On your device
Shadeline keeps your language, settings, saved places and recent searches on your device. They are not sent to us.
Hosting
The site and its functions run on Vercel. Short links are stored with Supabase in the European Union.
Children
Shadeline is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect their personal data.
