Shadeline

Photography and film

Know where the light will come from, and when the street falls into shadow.

A location looks different at nine and at five. Shadeline shows the direction of the sun, the length of the shadows and the moment a facade lights up, on the date of the shoot.

The sun table lists the golden hours and civil dawn and dusk for the place, so you can plan the call time.

What to check

  • Golden hour and twilight times on the date of the shoot
  • Which side of the street is lit, hour by hour
  • When a square or a courtyard gets its first and last direct sun
  • Sun azimuth and elevation for a planned frame

How to do it

  1. Search for the location and set the date of the shoot.
  2. Open the sun times for the golden hours, dawn and dusk.
  3. Drag the time slider and watch the light move across the scene.
  4. Save the view with its time, or share the link with the crew.
