Shadeline

Solar panels and roofs

Estimate the yearly solar energy on a roof and how much of it the surroundings take away.

Before asking for quotes it helps to know whether a roof is worth it. Tap the roof and Shadeline estimates the energy that reaches it in a year, with the shade of nearby buildings and terrain taken into account.

The figure is the irradiation on the surface in kWh per square metre. Multiply it by the panel area and efficiency for a first idea of the output.

What to check

  • Annual irradiation in kWh/m² on the roof
  • Shading loss: what the surroundings cost you compared with an open sky
  • Which months are weak, from the monthly chart
  • How a facade facing east, south or west compares

How to do it

  1. Search for the building and tilt the map until you see the roof.
  2. Switch to Analysis and tap the roof.
  3. Read the annual irradiation, the shading loss and the monthly values.
  4. Export the report as CSV to compare roofs or to send to an installer.
